-: The Hospice Education Institute operates Hospicelink, a national toll-free telephone service that provides information about caring for the dying and the bereaved; refers callers to hospices, palliative care programs, and bereavement support services; and offers sympathetic listening to callers coping with the problems of advanced illness and losses.
-: Other services and programs of the Hospice Education Institute include a small gift program, which makes immediate gifts to hospice patients and families for non-medical needs; cooperative education grants, awarded to hospice and palliative care organizations nationwide to assist them in planning and operating their own educational programs; an inpatient hospice design project, which works to create architectural modules to assist individual hospices and palliative care units in improving and/or designing their own facilities for in-patient end-of-life care; seminars for health and caring professionals and qualified hospice volunteers; advice and assistance to those wishing to begin or to improve community-based hospice, palliative care, and bereavement support; and books and pamphlets on hospice-related subjects.
