Main Activity Of Institute Of Comparative Medicine
-: The mission of ICM is to ensure the humane care of animals used in approved research, and to support medical research teams develop treatments for life-threatening conditions.
-: Using Veterinary Specialists certified by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) who direct the care, ICM provides an animal use training program to ensure that all personnel involved in animal care and use at Columbia University are qualified to perform their duties.
-: In addition, ICM contributes to the broader goal of increasing biomedical knowledge through a nationally renowned three-year ACLAM accredited training program for veterinary specialists in Comparative Medicine; by the provision of training courses on the humane care of animals to researchers and technical staff; and through research, teaching, conference presentations and other academic contributions of ICM faculty.
