-: Created in 1973, the Maine Department of Conservation’s mission is to benefit the citizens, landowners, and users of the state’s natural resources by promoting stewardship and ensuring responsible balanced use of Maine’s land, forest, water, and mineral resources.

-: The Bureau of Geology and Natural Areas provides information: to facilitate informed decision-making for natural resource management, economic development, conservation planning, and regulation; to provide public assistance; and to promote education.

-: The Bureau of Geology and Natural Areas inventories, maps, assesses, and interprets Maine’s geology and the ecology of the state’s plants, animals, and natural communities.
