-: MCNC was initially funded by the North Carolina State Government in 1980 as a catalyst for technology-based economic development.
-: MCNC builds partnerships among academic, research, government and business communities, thus enabling and advancing education, innovation and economic development throughout North Carolina by delivering information technology services through the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN).
-: NCREN connects teachers, students and partners to collaborate, discover, create, share and apply knowledge using fiber-optic infrastructure and providing Internet, video, audio, data and computing network services.
-: Services are provided to all 16 of North Carolina’s public institutions that grant baccalaureate degrees; the North Carolina School of Science and Math, a public residential high school for gifted students; Duke University; Wake Forest University; most of the state’s private universities and colleges; state government; and many of the state’s medical and research institutions.
