Main Activity Of Office Of The State Fire Marshal
-: The FMO is dedicated to protecting lives and property from the devastation of fire, explosions, and other life safety hazards.
-: FMO’s duties include: inspecting public buildings; reviewing the construction blueprints of public facilities before they’re built; regulating explosives, fireworks, and certain flammable liquids; inspecting mechanical rides; and licensing traveling amusement shows and circuses.
-: The FMO acts as the state’s primary enforcer of fire and life safety codes and is the Attorney General’s representative in the investigation of all fires and explosions in the state.
-: Some of the services provided by FMO include: sprinkler plans review; Maine Human Rights Commission compliance; child care inspections; health care inspections; place of assembly inspections; above ground storage tank inspections; training for trades people, care providers, code officials, and fire and law enforcement officials; investigation of fires and explosions; arson investigation; and fire prevention and safety education to areas in need.
