-: UMCES’ programs are carried out at three laboratories located across the State: the Appalachian Laboratory in western Maryland; the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, in southern Maryland; and the Horn Point Laboratory on the Delmarva Peninsula.
-: UMCES is responsible for the administration of the Maryland Sea Grant College program.
-: While UMCES’ research and science application activities emphasize the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed, its reach extends nationally and world-wide to distant seas and lands.
-: UMCES is interested in: microbiology; plankton biology; finfish biology; pollution biology; systems ecology; fisheries biology; toxicology; water chemistry; marine organic chemistry; marine biochemistry and geochemistry; estuarine biology, particularly in the Chesapeake system, including freshwater and marine studies; biology of fish, shellfish, sea nettles, fish eggs and larvae, zooplankton, phytoplankton, benthic organisms, algae, bacteria, viruses, protozoa and parasites, and organic and inorganic pollutants; and marine and environmental policy.
