Other Significations For Coartrin
This Medication Artemether is a methyl ether derivative of dihydroartemesinin It is similar to artemesinin in mode of action but demonstrates a reduced ability as a hypnozoiticidal compound instead acting more significantly to decrease gametocyte carriage Similar restrictions are in place as with artemesinin to prevent the development of resistance therefore it is only used in combination therapy for severe acute cases of drugresistant P falciparum It should be administered in a 7 day course with 4 mgkg given per day for 3 days followed by 16 mgkg for 3 days Side effects of the drug are few but include potential neurotoxicity developing if high doses are given
Precautions To Be Taken Before Coartrin
This drug should not be used with the following medications because very serious interactions may occur artemetherlumefantrine chloroquine halofantrine ketoconazole quinidine quinine ziprasidoneDo not take halofantrine or ketoconazole for 15 weeks after your last dose of mefloquineTell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use especially of betablockers eg atenolol propranolol live bacterial vaccines drugs for seizures eg carbamazepine phenytoinvalproic acid drugs affecting liver enzymes that remove mefloquine from your body such as rifamycins including rifabutin and rifampin and azole antifungals including itraconazole and ketoconazole
