-: The Department of Corrections implements a Correctional Industries Program, which aims: to reduce the taxpayers burden for maintaining the prison system by utilizing inmate labor to produce and perform services that are a fiscal benefit to the Commonwealth; to eliminate tension in the overcrowded prisons by employing large numbers of inmates in meaningful work at a nominal wage; and to provide a realistic work experience and marketable skills which will improve inmates’ chances for securing gainful employment upon their release.
