Main Activity Of Down’s Syndrome Association

-: Down’s syndrome is a chromosomal disorder in which all or a portion of chromosome 21 appears three times (trisomy) rather than twice in some (mosaicism) or all of the cells of the body.

-: Although associated symptoms and findings may vary from case to case, many affected infants have abnormally diminished muscle tone (hypotonia); short, broad hands and feet; and characteristic abnormalities of the head and facial (craniofacial) area, including an unusually small, short head (microbrachycephaly), a flattened back portion of the head (occiput), low-set ears, a depressed nasal bridge, and a large, protruding tongue.

-: Individuals with Down’s syndrome may also have chronic respiratory infections, heart defects that are present at birth (congenital heart defects), and other physical malformations.
