Main Activity Of Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center
-: Since the Eastern Shore AHEC began offering rural rotations to health professional students in 1996, the number of students served has steadily increased.
-: While the majority of students are from the University System of Maryland, students are represented from a variety of programs from other colleges and universities including medicine, dental, pharmacy, nursing, social work, physical therapy, and physician’s assistant.
-: All clinical education students are invited to participate in the Eastern Shore AHEC’s interdisciplinary curriculum that is designed to enhance understanding of the region; develop inter-professional dialogue and collaboration; increase awareness of other health professions and their service as a member of the healthcare team; and integrate all components in clinical services.
-: The six points of the curriculum include: orientation to the region; inter and multi-disciplinary seminars; regional site visits; case presentations; opportunities for interviews with practicing healthcare professionals; and student assessment exit interviews.
