-: Recognizing the need to protect and understand the water surrounding Florida, 20 institutions and agencies from across the state work collaboratively through FIO to maximize marine research and education resources.

-: FIO’s goal is to provide a forum for addressing the challenges facing the oceans and develop strategies for civic engagement, natural resource management and public policy which preserves and protects ocean resources.

-: In addition, the FIO aims to transform Florida’s scientific capabilities in ocean research while providing the education and marine management skills needed to protect our treasured marine environment.

-: The FIO mission is: to provide a diverse and collaborative statewide forum addressing problems of concern in coastal oceanographic research and education; to leverage and integrate existing physical and intellectual resources throughout Florida; to anticipate and plan for future infrastructure needs; to facilitate, promote and support collaborative ocean-related research and education statewide; and to develop and strengthen networks that enable timely identification of oceanographic research opportunities and distribution of research results and other information to the general public, natural resource management agencies and local, state and national policymakers.
