-: Racial and ethnic minorities and medically underserved populations experience disproportionately greater suffering and death from cancer, as compared with the United States population as a whole.

-: The ICC provides a forum to identify shared problems and develop collaborative solutions; promotes new partnerships to address the cancer crisis in United States communities; and facilitates issue advocacy.

-: Interests of the ICC include cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation; mental health; long-term care services; community health policies and programs; cultural competence and effectiveness; culturally appropriate health materials; research; full representation of underserved populations in clinical studies supported by public and private sector funds, and third-party coverage of patient care costs associated with these trials; training of researchers from minority communities; sensitivity and cultural competency training for healthcare providers; cancer education and patient advocacy; preventive health education; medical benefits; and healthcare delivery systems.
