-: The FAZD Center mission is to focus on research, education and outreach to prevent, detect, mitigate and recover from foreign animal and emerging or zoonotic diseases (those transmissible between animals and humans) which may be introduced through natural or intentional processes.
-: The FAZD Center’s team of scientists conducts cutting-edge, inter-institutional and inter-disciplinary research across three major themes: biological systems – vaccines, anti-viral agents, detection/diagnostic tests and universal platforms that satisfy DHS goals of detection, diagnosis, prevention and recovery; information and analysis systems – modeling and analysis tools to support better informed decision making at multiple levels of scale; and education and outreach – graduate programs, early responder training and stakeholder workshops to provide the next generation of science power for homeland security.
