-: NEMA provides national leadership and expertise in comprehensive emergency management; serves as a vital emergency management information and assistance resource; and advances continuous improvement in emergency management.
-: This work is done through strategic partnerships, innovative programs and collaborative policy positions.
-: The primary purpose of NEMA is to be the source of information, support and expertise for emergency management professionals at all levels of government and the private sector who prepare for, mitigate, respond to, recover from and provide products and services for all emergencies, disasters and threats to the nation’s security.
-: To accomplish this goal, NEMA focuses on six areas: strengthening the relationship with Congress and federal agencies; developing strategic partnerships with key organizations and individuals who impact emergency management; tackling emergency management issues through pro-active committees; holding two national conferences annually that bring together most knowledgeable speakers and emergency management professionals from around the country; serving as an information-sharing and support network for state directors and senior staff; and offering professional development and training.
