-: SRIC’s purpose, including the focus on issues affecting the Southwest, has remained essentially unchanged, although it now has a successful record in affecting issues of national and even international importance, such as nuclear waste management and uranium mining reclamation.
-: SRIC has helped empower dozens of local community groups so that they effectively participate in government and corporate decisions that affect them.
-: Interests of SRIC encompass public interest advocacy and teaching on problems relating to social and environmental issues in New Mexico and the Southwest, including: nuclear waste; water resources; sewage treatment; uranium development; radiation and health; oil and gas wastes; and mining issues.
-: Staff answers inquiries; provides consulting and reference services; analyzes data; distributes publications; makes referrals to other sources of information; and permits on-site use of collections.
